(1) Association
(a) Name - The name of the organisation shall be the Australian Asian Netball Association ("AANA").
(b) Mission Statement - AANA exists to:
• Provide netball players of Asian heritage in Australia with a platform for representative participation.
• Foster a sense of cultural identity, pride, and connection to ancestral roots through sport.• Promote inclusion, diversity, and growth of netball across multicultural communities in Australia.
• Develop aspirational role models who inspire and support Netball Australia's participation goals.
(c) Objectives
• Deliver representative and community-based programs to support athlete development.
• Celebrate cultural heritage through inclusive netball programs, events, and educational engagement.
• Collaborate with Netball Australia and state associations to expand netball participation.
• Build a sustainable, values-driven structure to support coaching, officiating, and leadership pathways.
• Enhance social cohesion through intercultural engagement within the netball community
(d) Values
• Inclusion – Every player is welcome, valued, and respected.
• Heritage – We celebrate and honour Asian ancestry and cultural connection.
• Excellence – We strive for personal and team development, on and off the court.
• Integrity – We lead with fairness, transparency, and accountability.
• Aspiration – We inspire future generations to dream and achieve through netball.
(e) Affiliation - AANA will seek formal recognition and collaboration with:
• Netball Australia and relevant State/Territory Netball Associations.
· Asian Netball Federation
· World Netball Federation
(f) Definition of Australian Asian - For the purposes of this Constitution, an Australian Asian is defined as:
· A person residing in Australia who identifies with Asian ancestry, including but not limited to: South Asian, East Asian, Southeast Asian, and Central Asian heritage.
· Countries include (but are not limited to): India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, and Central Asian nations (e.g., Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan).
· Individuals of mixed heritage are eligible if part of their ancestry meets the above definition.
(g) Eligibility for Representative Participation - To be eligible for selection in representative teams, squads, or events under AANA, players must meet the following criteria:
(h) Heritage Criteria – A player must identify as Australian Asian, and meet at least one of the following:
· Have at least one parent or grandparent born in an Asian country as defined under Section 13.
· Demonstrate cultural affiliation with an Asian community through lived experience, language, community participation, or heritage traditions.
· Have been formally recognised by a local Asian community body, cultural association, or relevant diaspora-based organisation in Australia.
(i) Residency Requirement - Players must be Australian citizens or permanent residents currently residing in Australia.
(j) Special Consideration - In cases where heritage verification may not be straightforward (e.g. mixed heritage, adoption, displacement), the AANA Selection Committee may consider a written submission from the player, and may consult community leaders for eligibility confirmation.
